Clinging to God

I love the Psalms. I love the raw emotions that are found in there. The psalms invite us to sing, to pray, to wrestle, to plead, and to simply come as we are in the presence of God. We don’t have first to get it together to come before God, we just have to come; and slowly but surely, the Lord mightily molds us into His likeness when we put our trust and faith in Him.

And beautiful enough, these prayers that are found in the Psalms are in the form of poetry. That fact fills my heart with joy because I love poetry. What a marvelous and wonderful thing that the Bible has its fair share of poetry. The below is a poem from a brother in Christ, Colin Kazungu M., and I pray that these words bless you and draw your heart closer to God. I pray also that as you read the poem that you meditate on the following verses:

Live Deeply in Christ 1 John 2:28-29 (MSG version)

“And now, children, stay with Christ. Live deeply in Christ. Then we’ll be ready for Him when He appears, ready to receive Him with open arms, with no cause for red-faced guilt or lame excuses when He arrives. Once you’re convinced that He is right and righteous, you’ll recognize that all who practice righteousness are God’s true children.”

The Lord will be Gracious Isaiah 30:18-22

Out of fear of the ones we love
We attempt to control
our behavior,
scared to death
of the day we will stop being
as consistent as their hearts
that beat for us.
Life has taught many of us
that affection comes
with expiration dates.
Afraid they won’t be held like a promise.

But I will learn to whisper
Matthew 6: 31 into their ears,
and hopefully to their hearts
until they rest assured
that God is in control.
My walk in Christ should inspire
Scripture to their lips,
and in return
I will call to mind
who I really am in Christ.

Furthermore,
I will look at my brothers and sisters
and say you are lifeless clay without Him
He took you from being criminals
that we condemn
to being Christians that He commands.
Let His character paint you
into priests.
Priests that He graciously sends
into this world, His world.
Honor the One whose blood
not only washes the clay
that disobeyed its Potter,
but also walks you and walks with you
through the narrow gate of salvation.
